María Emilia Analuisa was born and raised in Quito, Ecuador. With half of her family residing in the United States, she grew up maintaining close ties to both countries, spending summers visiting family in the U.S. These experiences fostered an early interest in cultural diversity, languages, and migration, while giving her a personal understanding of the connections that immigrant families maintain across borders.
Emilia earned her bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, with a minor in Sociology, from Universidad San Francisco de Quito. Her academic journey also took her to the United States, where she studied abroad at Kalamazoo College and later worked as a Spanish instructor at Allegheny College in Pennsylvania. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Linguistics at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) in Brazil, focusing her research on linguistic justice, migration, and the experiences of migrant women across the Americas.
With over five years of experience in research, education, and intercultural communication, Emilia has worked with diverse communities across Ecuador, the United States, and Brazil. Her work includes collaboration with Madre Tierra, a community-based organization in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area that supports migrant women and promotes community empowerment. Through her academic research and engagement with migrant communities, she has developed a strong commitment to addressing linguistic and cultural barriers and understanding the challenges immigrant families face.
Drawing from her academic and professional background, as well as her personal experiences with transnational family connections, Emilia brings empathy, cultural awareness, and a commitment to accessible communication to her work at Massa Viana Law. She strives to help individuals and families navigate complex immigration processes with clarity.
