I joined the United States Army through a program initially for visa holders, later extended to DACA recipients. My name is Harrison, and I arrived in the U.S. at 12 as a minor. Life was challenging, a whole new world. Learning English took time, and as an undocumented immigrant, I could attend school, but the reality hit at 18.
While friends pursued college, I couldn’t due to no financial aid or a social security number. I tried joining the military at 18 but was rejected. DACA changed my life five years later. The MAVNI program allowed me to enlist, bypassing the green card process. I became a client here, applying for citizenship.
The lawyers were exceptional, always available, and accompanied me to my citizenship interview. It’s a dream come true. I’m now an electrician in the Army for Delta 249. I’m grateful for everything.
